Many of you know this whole month I was talking about getting some rescue dogs in from Greece. Yesterday I learned the airlines are all fucky right now and I was given notification that they were no longer coming due to flight changes. At all. Air Transat can suck a dick. I spent a few hours ugly crying, then I got down to business. I spent hours and hours and hours calling every airline I could find and finally solved it - I will be working with my rescue, flying to Greece, working with shelters there, and bringing home FOUR dogs :) my two, and likely two small wheelchair dogs that are in desperate need of a good Canadian home (I don't get to keep those two tho lol). This goal covers the flights for me, my partner and all four dogs. I cannot go alone, I wouldn't be allowed to bring as many back. Air regulations are really strange. I will be leaving early September and flying back on the 6th, it's gonna be about 27 hrs of flying and layovers in the span of 4 days, during covid. Yes, this is absolutely insane, but nothing could keep me from dogs. Nothing. Another thing many of you know is that I plan to start my own rescue in the next few years. So this trip is also a fundamental learning experience for me. I will be covering my own hotel, food and travel to and from the airport. I don't think that's fair to ask for your help with that. The rescue will try to help as much as they can with the flights, but honestly, they have tons on their hands with organizing rescues from all over the world and very little funding and I know we can crush this goal and cover it ourselves. The money raised from the switch raffle on MFC is officially being directly donated to the small shelters I will be working with in Greece. There is an epidemic of stray, injured, and generally very needy dogs there and love knows no borders. So not only will I be flying there to bring dogs back, but I plan on bringing aid to them directly as well. It's gonna be fuckin good you guys. Consider this the first ever Loxley Dog Rescue Mission!
